Two-time Super Bowl winner reaches out to help struggling Steelers offense

The Pittsburgh Steelers are now 3-2 (2-0 in the AFC North) and have the division lead following their 17-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5, but their offense continued to struggle. Could help be on the way to Pittsburgh?

According to Steelers insider Mark Kaboly, Byron Leftwich, formerly the offensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2019-22, has reached out to the team about being an offensive consultant.

Leftwich won Super Bowl LV with Tampa Bay and Super Bowl XLIII with Pittsburgh, backing up QB Ben Roethlisberger.

It would certainly be an intriguing addition as the Steelers offense, led by offensive coordinator Matt Canada, ranks as the third-worst in total yards per game (268.2) and fourth-worst in points per game (15.8).

However, the Steelers are reportedly "ignorning" Leftwich.

Why the Steelers would ignore help for their offense is unknown. Many would think that they would be open to anything that could help it a little bit.

A reunion with Leftwich would also make sense considering he previously played for Pittsburgh, which loves having ties to former players.

For now, it doesn't seem like there will be changes to the coaching staff. A loss to Baltimore may have forced the Steelers to do so, but now it is unlikely.

Head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters last week that there will be no coaching changes "at this juncture" — although, he did say he will continue to review it every week.

"All of that is coaching and elements of decision-making. I'm always looking at that, obviously looking at that," Tomlin said.

There is no better time to make a coaching change, or addition in this case, entering the Week 6 bye, but Pittsburgh seems to be sticking with its OC for the time being.
