The Saints and Tyrann Mathieu are coming together to get a reworked contract done, according to NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill. He notes that it should get done soon.

Mathieu's current deal has him set to count for just over $12 million against the cap this season from his original three-year, $27 million deal that he signed in 2022. He's technically on the last year of his deal due to the three void years that come into play between 2025-2027, but a reworked contract would presumably provide a bigger cap relief for the team and could spread out the financials more.

Currently, the Saints are just north of $17 million over the cap with less than a week to go before the new league year. There's still plenty of restructure candidates, and New Orleans will undoubtedly make space to spend in free agency, but don't expect them to go for any of the top-tier players.
