As we approach the offseason, the UCLA Bruins will need to retool their team as they enter the Big 10 conference in 2024, and it will start with adding a new defensive coordinator.

The Bruins lost their defensive coordinator, D'Anton Lynn, after one year. One spectacular year, I might add. Lynn has packed his bags and headed south of Los Angeles to become the new defensive coordinator for the USC Trojans

Lynn made a name for himself after one year as the DC for the Bruins, leading the team to new heights no one outside of the program could've ever predicted. The 34-year-old defensive coordinator is a former player turned coordinator after his dream in the NFL didn't pan out. However, former NFL head coach Rex Ryan knew Lynn would be great, having to say this before Lynn made his coaching debut at UCLA.

“This kid’s a superstar and he’s going to be, without question, a head coach probably a hell of a lot sooner than UCLA wants him to be.”

(per Rex Ryan via LA Times)

Lynn certainly proved Rex right. Rex was Lynn's former coach when he was a member of the New York Jets in 2012.

The former Penn State Nittany Lion didn't have a long playing career, but he's moved around in his coaching career. From a seasonal intern for the Jets to a defensive assistant for the Bills and Chargers, assistant defensive backs coach for the Texans, and defensive backs coach for the Baltimore Ravens.

He's done it all, and his loss will be felt unless the Bruins hire a DC just as good or better than Lynn. We shall wait and see.
