Urban Meyer clarifies future plans on coaching

There is no doubt a lot of college football teams that would love to have three-time National Champion Urban Meyer building their programs. Whenever a prominent job becomes available, he always seems to be the first name at the top of the wishlist.

However, Meyer seems to have no interest in that anymore, telling the Columbus-Dispatch this week "that book is closed" when referring to a potential return to the sidelines.

Meyer added that his future is only going to be doing TV and being a grandfather.

Meyer's last coaching job was a disastrous stint in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars where he did not even last a full season in a year that was filled with losing and controversy. Since then he has been back working as a college football analyst for Fox Sports.

While he did not have the ability to cut it in the NFL, his NCAA resume is as good as it gets with resounding success at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and Ohio State.

He is still only 58 years old and, in theory, is absolutely still at an age where he could turn the right program into a powerhouse.

It is also difficult to take him at his word when it comes to his future because he has never really been totally forthcoming when it comes to his plans. His closed book right now could easily open with one phone call or one offer from a program that he wants to be a part of.

For the time being he seems content with what he is doing, and it is hard to see the fault in that. He still gets to talk about football and get paid a significant amount of money while not having to deal with the pressures and time commitments that come with recruiting and coaching. He already has his championship rings and nothing else to prove at the NCAA level.
