Well, college football fans, Urban Meyer has spoken.

And that means it must be true. And the truth - according to Meyer - is that there are just eight teams worthy of national championship talk as we close in on the 2024 college football season.

Meyer won three national championships split between his time as the coach of the University of Florida and THE Ohio State University, so maybe he knows a little something about nattys.

“Every year, I used to do this. I’d make circles and I’d draw — I’d call them the Elite 8. Cause realistically there are not 12 teams that can win a national title,” Meyer claimed last weekend. “I don’t think so. I think every year there’s an 8. There’s my 8.”

Per Meyer, the national champion in 2024 will be either Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Michigan, Texas or Utah.

Look out, Urban, you omitted one very popular team from your list. Notre Dame fans are going to be all over you.

“Notre Dame was right there on the edge,” Meyer said. “But I would always evaluate those 8 teams and say what do they have that we don’t have? I don’t really look at the top 10 right there. There are so many variables of how you can get there and how you can stay there.”

Watch your back, coach. Those Irish fans are passionate!
