Veteran QB Chad Henne retires hours after winning Super Bowl LVII

Hours after almost being thrust into duty and ultimately winning Super Bowl LVII with the Kansas City Chiefs, Chad Henne announced his retirement from the NFL.

Patrick Mahomes reaggravated his high-ankle sprain late in the second quarter of the victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night and was seen limping heavily to the sideline. His status for the rest of the contest was somewhat in doubt during halftime, but it being the Super Bowl, and seeing how Mahomes has toughed out the injury before, it wasn't much of a surprise to see him start the second half under center.

Mahomes ended up leading the Chiefs to a dramatic, come-from-behind 38-35 win and earned Super Bowl MVP honors by finishing 21-for-27 for 182 passing yards, three touchdowns and six rushing attempts for 44 yards. If Mahomes had been unable to go in the second half, Henne would've likely been called upon to try and lead a comeback.

A second-round 2008 draft pick by the Miami Dolphins, Henne spent the first four seasons of his career in South Beach before signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars in March 2012. He then suited up with the Jaguars for six years before spending the last five with Kansas City.

After Mahomes initially suffered the ankle injury during the AFC divisional round against the Jaguars, Henne came on for 13 snaps and went 5-for-7 for 23 yards and one touchdown.

Henne ends his career with 13,290 passing yards and 60 passing touchdowns against 63 interceptions across 78 regular-season games (54 starts) and, most importantly, two Super Bowl rings.
