Veteran RB Adrian Peterson optimistic he will sign with NFL team for 2021 season

Adrian Peterson is hopeful an NFL team will give him the opportunity to play his 15th season in the league, and the veteran running back is confident he'll get a deal soon with training camp right around the corner.

"The training is going well, and I'm going to control the things that I can control right now, and, when that time comes, somebody will give me a call," Peterson said Thursday, according to Sports Talk 790's Aaron Wilson.

"That's all I'm asking for. My body feels good. I came out healthy from last season. My body feels strong. I still feel young. I still feel good. I'm ready to play ball."

Peterson still is a free agent after spending the 2020 campaign with the Detroit Lions. The 36-year-old ran for 604 yards and seven touchdowns last season, adding 12 catches for 101 yards.

Peterson's Hall of Fame-caliber career includes an MVP award, seven Pro Bowls and an Offensive Player of the Year award. However, he still has yet to win a Super Bowl and is hoping to sign with a contender this summer.

In total, Peterson has ran for 14,820 yards and 118 touchdowns in 180 games. He needs just needs 450 yards to surpass Barry Sanders in the top four of the all-time rushing list.
