Veteran WR Randall Cobb returning to Packers: 'I'm coming home'
The Green Bay Packers have agreed to one of Aaron Rodgers' requests by bringing back veteran wide receiver Randall Cobb.
Cobb seemingly announced that he had been traded from the Houston Texans to the Packers on Wednesday, saying on Twitter, "I'm coming home!" A deal had reportedly been in the works for several days, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky.
Cobb spent the first eight seasons of his career in Green Bay, becoming one of Rodgers' go-to receivers. He left in free agency in 2018, spending one season with the Dallas Cowboys before landing a three-year, $27 million deal with the Texans.
In 10 games with the Texans last season, the 30-year-old caught 38 passes for 441 yards and three touchdowns. He suffered a toe injury in Week 11 last year, which caused him to miss six games.
In his eight seasons with the Packers, Cobb caught 470 passes for 5,524 yards and 41 touchdowns in 105 games.
Rodgers has not had a true slot receiver since Cobb's departure in 2018. Bringing him back will certainly make the reigning MVP happy, but it's probably not enough to keep him in Green Bay beyond the 2021 season.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported earlier this week that Rodgers would more than likely part ways with the franchise in 2022.
