Last season was a disastrous first year in Washington for Curtis Samuel. After inking a three-year, $34.5 million deal, Samuel played 84 offensive snaps in five games.

A lingering groin injury that reportedly required core muscle surgery hampered Samuel all season. The whole ordeal was frustrating for Samuel and Washington fans, as the team staggered through a 7-10 season.

With the season behind him, Samuel hopes 2021 was an aberration. It appears he already is working on moving forward to next season. On Friday a video surfaced of the wide receiver running in a workout drill.

It’s unclear the frequency and progress of his workouts. However, the sighting is very encouraging and brings hope Curtis Samuel can get back to good health and get on the field.

The video comes just a few days after Samuel teased fans with a post of his cleats on a field.

< p>Washington signed him last offseason with hopes he could slot in as the No. 2 passing option to alleviate pressure from top receiver Terry McLaurin. Samuel flashed his potential in four seasons with the Carolina Panthers –the first three under Washington head coach Ron Rivera.

Rivera spent much of last season defending Samuel while trying to hide and cover the significance of Samuel’s injury.

Last season was a waste. Now, Samuel gets a second opportunity to prove he’s worth the signing. Just getting on the field and staying on it will be a positive. Duplicating or bettering his 2020 season — 77 catches, 851 yards, three touchdowns — will go a long way to changing the narrative of his story in Washington.
