Vikings expected to sign veteran pass-rusher Everson Griffen

The Minnesota Vikings are expected to sign veteran pass-rusher Everson Griffen, who worked out for the franchise last week, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Griffen spent the first 10 seasons of his career in Minnesota, earning four Pro Bowl selections. In 147 games for the franchise, he recorded 74.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, two interceptions, 355 tackles, 86 tackles for a loss and 176 quarterback hits.

Griffen opted out of the final year of his contract with the Vikings after the 2019 season and later signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys for the 2020 campaign.

In addition to the Cowboys, the 33-year-old spent some of the 2020 season with the Detroit Lions. He had six sacks, 33 tackles, seven tackles for a loss and 14 quarterback hits.

Stephen Weatherly and D.J. Wonnum are competing for Minnesota's starting defensive end spot across from Danielle Hunter. Griffen should drive competition between the two.
