The Vikings have made a handful of minor roster moves on Tuesday:

  • DL Sheldon Day signed to active roster from practice squad
  • WR Trishton Jackson waived
  • OLB Austin Bryant signed to practice squad
  • WR/ST Dan Chisena released from practice squad

Assuming Jackson ends up back on the practice squad, this is just the Vikings swapping Day in for Jackson on the active roster and swapping Bryant in for Chisena on the practice squad.

Day, 29, is a journeyman veteran defensive tackle who was drafted by the Jaguars in the fourth round in 2016 and has also appeared in games with the 49ers, Colts, and Browns. He's been on the Vikings' practice squad since December 2022. This move gives Minnesota another depth piece at DT after Dean Lowry was placed on injured reserve. Day will be in the mix with Khyiris Tonga and Jaquelin Roy to get snaps behind starters Harrison Phillips and Jonathan Bullard.

Jackson has been with the Vikings since 2021, bouncing between the PS and the active roster several times this year. He's appeared in six games this season, playing 53 offensive snaps against the Falcons when the Vikings were without Justin Jefferson, K.J. Osborn, and Jalen Nailor. He has two catches for nine yards in 2023.

Bryant, 27, was drafted by the Lions in the fourth round in 2019. He spent four years in Detroit, peaking in 2021 when he played in 14 games (with five starts) and recorded 4.5 sacks. He was with the 49ers earlier this season, appearing in two games. Bryant replaces Chisena, a special teams gunner who was buried on the Vikings' depth chart in that role.
