The Vikings have signed former Browns cornerback A.J. Green III to a reserve/futures contract, they announced on Tuesday.

Green, 25, spent the last four seasons with Cleveland after signing as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State in 2020. He bounced between the active roster and the practice squad, making 34 appearances (with two starts) during his Browns tenure. Green played just over 300 defensive snaps and nearly 500 special teams snaps across the last four years.

Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is familiar with Green from his time as the Browns' VP of football operations (2020-21).

He didn't play much in 2020 or '23, but Green was a key special teams player and backup corner for the Browns in 2021 and '22. 29 of his appearances and both starts came during those two seasons, where he had two interceptions, seven passes defended, and two fumble recoveries in somewhat limited action. It's a small sample size, but he earned a 90.3 PFF coverage grade on 116 snaps in 2021 (and then a rough 41.8 coverage grade the following year).

Green has great size at 6'2", 200 pounds, but scored poorly in the athletic tests at the 2020 combine, which contributed to him going undrafted

Green should get a chance to compete for a spot on the Vikings' roster or practice squad in 2024. His length and special teams experience are assets working in his favor.
