Vikings to hire Rams assistant Wes Phillips as offensive coordinator?

New Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell is building his coaching staff and landed a former co-worker as his offensive coordinator. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Vikings will hire Wes Phillips for the role.

Phillips, 43, was the tight ends coach and passing game coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, working closely with O'Connell who was the team's offensive coordinator. The duo worked together on a Rams offense that finished the regular season with the second-most passing touchdowns in the NFL and won Super Bowl LVI.

Before joining the Rams' coaching staff in 2019, Phillips spent five seasons as Washington's tight ends coach and one season coaching the Dallas Cowboys tight ends.

Phillips is the grandson of former Houston Oilers and New Orleans Saints coach Bum Phillips and the son of former Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, and Cowboys coach Wade Phillips.

The Vikings' offense finished the regular season 14th in points scored and 12th in total offense.
