Vikings to induct DE Jared Allen into team's 'Ring of Honor'

This October, the Minnesota Vikings will honor former defensive end Jared Allen by inducting him into the team's Ring of Honor.

The ceremony will take place on Oct. 30 at halftime of the Vikings' Week 7 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.

Spending over six seasons with the Vikings, Allen was a four-time Pro Bowler while being named an All-Pro three times. In 96 career regular-season games for Minnesota, Allen compiled 246 tackles, 85.5 sacks, 16 forced fumbles, four interceptions, and two defensive touchdowns.

Allen played in four career playoff games with the Vikings, tallying 15 tackles, 4.0 sacks, and three forced fumbles.

In 2011, Allen broke the Vikings' franchise record for sacks in a season, recording 22.

A terror in the backfield throughout his career, Allen ranks sixth in Vikings' franchise history in sacks and third in forced fumbles.

"Jared played with a passion, energy and drive that few players are able to match for as long as he did," Vikings Owner/President Mark Wilf said via the team's press release. "He raised the level of play for everyone around him with his relentless approach, and he set a positive example with his engagement in the Minnesota community. We are excited he will join the Vikings Ring of Honor and forever be remembered as a Viking."

The Vikings found a creative way to inform Allen of his induction into the Ring of Honor. Invited to speak with the team after training camp Thursday, the Vikings revealed the news on one of US Bank Stadium's colossal endzone screens.
