Vikings tried to move back up for Christian Darrisaw before selecting him at No. 23

After a trade with the New York Jets netted the Minnesota Vikings the 23rd pick and two third-rounders, the franchise was very worried they were going to miss out on the player they really wanted.

After landing Virginia Tech's Christian Darrisaw, Vikings general manager Rick Spielman admitted he was so worried about another team selecting the tackle that he considered moving back up in the draft to secure him.

"Once we got down to about four or five picks, when we went down to 23, we did try to go back up because we wanted to try to make sure that we got Christian," Spielman said, via the team's website. "We were unable to. Fortunately, we did not have to. We were able to keep our extra picks that we gained and still got the player that we coveted. So, it worked out very well for us."

Darrisaw became the first Virginia Tech offensive lineman to be drafted in the first round since Duane Brown in 2008. He was considered one of the top five offensive linemen in the draft.

Darrisaw helped the Hokies register 27 rushing touchdowns last season, good for 10th in the country. He was a major reason for success running the ball and being a stable pass blocker.
