Vikings WR Justin Jefferson claps back at Jets CB D.J. Reed
Although he was kept relatively quiet until the fourth quarter, Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson scored the eventual winning touchdown in Sunday’s 27-22 win over the New York Jets.
But after Jets cornerback D.J. Reed, whom Jefferson beat on his lone touchdown catch, told reporters after the game that he frustrated Jefferson all game, the two-time Pro Bowler took to Twitter to clap back at the disgruntled CB.
Reed shadowed Jefferson for most of Sunday’s matchup, holding the third-year wideout to seven receptions for 45 yards and a score. It was the third-fewest receiving yards he’s had this season, and his 6.4 yards per reception was his second-lowest output of the year.
“I was in his s--- all game,” Reed said, via Zack Rosenblatt of the Athletic. “He got that one route on me, so I’m frustrated. But I felt like I did a great job containing him. You saw me, I was just frustrated because I don’t want to give up a touchdown; I don’t want to be the reason my team loses. So, I’m going to look at it to see what I could’ve did to play it better. Other than that, I held my own for sure against him.”
Jefferson beat Reed on a 10-yard out route for a touchdown on a third-and-6 play from the Jets' 10-yard line with 8:33 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Jets scored on their next possession to pull within 27-22 but the Vikings' defense forced a turnover-on-downs and an interception on New York’s final two possessions to seal the win.
