Viral photo of Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers fuels Jets trade speculation
Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams exchanged pleasantries on the field before Sunday night's kickoff between the New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders. Yet, that wasn't the first time the former teammates reconnected over the past weekend.
On Saturday, Adams shared a photo of himself alongside Rodgers on his Instagram story, further fueling speculation of the duo reuniting down the line.
ESPN's Rich Cimini wrote on Sunday that the Jets could once again attempt to poach Adams from Las Vegas this offseason. Cimini's colleague, NFL insider Adam Schefter, reported on Nov. 4 that New York called the Raiders ahead of the trade deadline hoping to add Adams as a complement to No. 1 wideout Garrett Wilson.
Adams has been outspoken this season over his displeasure with his role in the Raiders offense. Adams has gone eight games without a touchdown or 90-plus receiving yards since a monstrous 172-yard, two-touchdown performance in Week 3. He has seemed to mesh more with interim coach Antonio Pierce and his philosophy, which evidently includes featuring the six-time Pro Bowler in the passing game.
"When you’ve got one of the best receivers in the game, I’m not stupid. I know who to get the ball to,” Pierce told reporters after Sunday's 16-12 victory over the Jets.
While the culture in Sin City looks to be improving, the Raiders remain a fringe playoff-caliber team with uncertainty at quarterback. As for the Jets, they become immediate Super Bowl contenders once Rodgers returns to full strength under center.
The possibility of Adams chasing a Lombardi Trophy alongside Rodgers should keep trade speculation active throughout the offseason.
Playing eight seasons with Rodgers as a member of the Green Bay Packers from 2014-21, Adams established himself as a premier pass-catcher, accounting for the second-most receiving touchdowns (73) and fifth-most receptions (669) in the NFL.
