A lot of eyes are on the Washington Commanders heading into the 2024 NFL Draft. This is because they hold the second overall pick in this draft. On top of this, there is more mystery with the Commanders as to who they will pick compared to the Chicago Bears.

All signs point to the Bears selecting USC QB Caleb Williams with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. In all likelihood, the Commanders will select a quarterback with their draft pick as well. Who will they pick? Well, a source may have given us a hint to get us closer to that answer.

Washington Commanders Sources Reveal Quarterback Meeting Dates

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, sources revealed that the Commanders are planning multiple meetings with elite quarterback prospects. Washington essentially has three days next week that they plan to use to meet with these quarterbacks.

The Commanders will meet with LSU QB Jayden Daniels next Monday. Then, they plan to meet with North Carolina QB Drake Maye next Tuesday and Wednesday. If these meeting dates are accurate, it could be telling that the Commanders have set aside two meeting dates for Maye.

Drake Maye vs. Jayden Daniels

Outside of Caleb Williams, these are arguably the two best quarterback prospects heading into this year’s draft. One of these quarterbacks will likely be the second overall pick. However, there has been a debate as to which one Washington will choose.

Let’s start with Jayden Daniels. One of the main reasons he is in this discussion is because he won the Heisman Trophy last season. Daniels had 50 combined touchdowns last season (40 passing, 10 rushing). On top of this, he had 1,134 rushing yards and 3,812 passing yards.

So, how does Drake Maye compare to Daniels? For starters, he had 3,608 passing yards and 24 touchdown passes last season. On top of this, he had 449 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns.

Possible North Carolina Connection?

Last year, the starting quarterback for the Washington Commanders was Sam Howell. He also played at North Carolina before entering the NFL before Maye took over for him. So, if the Commanders do end up drafting Maye, it could be two straight quarterbacks from North Carolina starting for this team.
