Washington Football Team has 86% of players partially vaccinated against COVID-19

In late July, Washington Football Team coach Ron Rivera admitted he was "beyond frustrated" by his team's low COVID-19 vaccination rate, as he is considered immunodeficient following his battle with squamous cell carcinoma last year.

Washington still has a ways to go, but Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post tweeted Monday that 86% of the club's players are now at least partially vaccinated against the coronavirus, up from 36% as of early July. 59.3% of players are fully vaccinated.

Washington is ranked 28th among NFL teams as it pertains to getting the safe and available shots. To compare, Jhabvala adds that 91.7% of all NFL players have received at least one vaccine shot. 80.8% of players league-wide are considered fully vaccinated.

The NFL is threatening to force forfeits and withhold game checks if any regular-season matchups can't be played during the upcoming campaign because of a COVID-19 outbreak among unvaccinated personnel. Before the league informed teams of this, Rivera had a Harvard immunologist and virus expert speak with his players about the vaccines to help ease their minds and convince them to get the shots.

Per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, Washington removed wide receiver Curtis Samuel from the reserve/COVID-19 list and placed him on the active/physically unable to perform list earlier on Monday. Samuel has been dealing with a groin injury since June 1.
