Washington Football Team to keep name for 2021?

In October, Washington Football Team president Jason Wright explained that he believed the team name and current branding could remain in place for at least one more NFL season.

It appears that will be the case.

As Chris Cwik wrote for Yahoo Sports, the franchise has launched a new website related to the team's upcoming name and logos. "The future of Washington Football arrives in 2022," reads a brief statement on the site's homepage, an indication that the club will again go by Washington Football Team next fall.

Visitors can upload their submissions for potential names and mascots, view a timeline of the rebranding process that began last year, and also sign up for updates.

Washington officially retired its former name and logo deemed racist and offensive by many in July. It was always assumed Washington Football Team would be a placeholder name, but it's grown on some club supporters and former critics.

"I think next year is fast because of how the brand has to come together through uniforms, through approval processes through the league," Wright said in October. "Next year is fast. There is a pretty good chance we will still be the Washington Football Team next season. We could get there quicker; it’s actually pretty hard to get there that quickly because of all the steps that need to happen."

Washington won the NFC East title but fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wild Card Saturday in its first season under its temporary name.
