Washington Football Team trainer Ryan Vermillion on leave amid criminal investigation

The Washington Football Team improved to 2-2 on the season via a 34-30 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday but were in headlines on Monday for a much different reason.

According to The Associated Press (h/t ESPN), Washington placed head athletic trainer Ryan Vermillion on administrative leave Monday because of what is being referred to as "an ongoing criminal investigation unrelated to the club."

Per NBC Sports Washington, federal investigators raided Washington's training facility and a nearby home on Friday afternoon. Residents told NBC Sports Washington that multiple United States Drug Enforcement Administration agents were part of the search. Vermillion hasn't yet commented on the story, and head coach Ron Rivera was expected to speak about the matter during his Monday press obligation.

Vermillion was originally hired by Washington in January 2020, and his future status with the club is up in the air. Previously, he worked for the Carolina Panthers for 18 seasons.

Washington hosts the New Orleans Saints this coming Sunday. The Saints fell to 2-2 on the season after a 27-21 overtime loss to the New York Giants in Week 4.
