New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers wants to come back and play football this season. That much is clear.
Whether or not he actually makes it back from the torn ACL he suffered just four games into his tenure with the Jets is anyone's guess, but at least in his world, it is a possibility.
Speaking to Peyton Manning and Eli Manning -- two legendary quarterbacks in their own right -- on the "Monday Night Football" alternative telecast, affectionately known as "the Manningcast", Rodgers explained his goal to make a comeback this season.
"I've had a couple of injuries over the years. I think for me, you always have to set a goal otherwise you go kind of crazy. The goal is to definitely come back," Rodgers said.
It's worth noting that having a goal is one thing. Accomplishing such a goal, especially in his year 40 season after 18 grueling seasons with the Green Bay Packers, is a completely different matter.
And to Rodgers's credit, he admitted that as well. Often mocked for his "mystic" thoughts about life, Rodgers doesn't seem delusional about what it's going to take.
"There's a lot of factors that go into that. I've got to get to a point where I can protect myself and then do what I do," Rodgers said. Returning this season may be extremely unrealistic, but at the very least, Jets fans can be excited about the potential of an eventual return from the four-time MVP.
He told the Manning brothers that he's entering rehab every day with the intention of being able to come back and play again.
