Watch: Bengals QB Joe Burrow goes down with calf injury

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was carted off the practice field on Thursday afternoon after suffering a right calf injury.

Burrow was scrambling away from the pass rush during an 11-on-11 drill when he suddenly pulled up, grabbed at his calf, and immediately dropped to the ground.

After being tended to for a few minutes by team trainers a cart was brought out to take him off the field.

Here is a look at the play where the injury occurred.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor confirmed it was a calf injury after practice while adding they do not have any more information at this time. It was noticed that Burrow entered practice wearing a sleeve on that same leg, and when asked about it Taylor said it is common for players to be a little sore after the first day of practice and that there was no issue with his leg.

Until the Bengals offer an official update or Burrow returns to the field, this is going to be the biggest story in the league.

Cincinnati is one of the best teams in the NFL and a top tier Super Bowl contender, and Burrow is one is one of the biggest reasons why. He is one of the best quarterbacks in the league and in three years has rapidly turned the Bengals into a championship caliber team. If he misses any regular season time it would be impossible for the Bengals to replace what Burrow brings to the table.

It is also noteworthy that Burrow is the next major player in line for a significant contract extension. Any sort of an injury, especially one in a training camp practice, could be problematic for him financially. It is why players want to get those deals signed as soon as possible and why so many tend to "hold in" or even hold out as they await a new deal.
