Former Cleveland Browns left tackle and soon to Pro Football Hall of Fame member Joe Thomas recently had quite the experience. Thomas was joined by former Houston Texans pass rusher Whitney Mercilus to spend some time with military dogs.

In the video above, both Thomas and Mercilus dress up in protective wear and try to outrun the K9. As you can quickly see, that isn’t going to happen. On Thomas’ first run, he evades from being tackled like Mercilus was but he did not have that same luck on the second go around.

The experience was hosted by USAA, Official NFL Salute to Service Partner, as part of their “Salute to Service” program. This is one of many authentic military appreciation events that USAA and the NFL have created to foster an understanding and appreciation for the military community, bringing our military closer to a game they love.

It’s safe to say that Mercilus was better at rushing the passer and Thomas was better at protecting the quarterback, compared to the chance either stood with these dogs.
