Watch: Chiefs use safety Justin Reid as emergency kicker, drills extra point

The first week of the NFL season has been a rough one for kickers so far.

We have seen some big misses in big moments, and one potentially significant injury with Kansas City Chiefs kicker Michael Butker going down with an ankle injury in the first half.

That pushed safety Justin Reid into emergency kicking duty, and his first extra point attempt was flawless as he absolutely drilled it right down the middle with plenty of room to spare.

He had another opportunity later in the second quarter but missed that one, pushing it a little too far to his right.

NFL kickers are better today than they have ever been at any point in the history of the league, not only in terms of their range but also for their accuracy. Just because they make it look easy does not mean it is easy. That is a long way to kick a football for somebody that does not typically do it, does not typically practice it, and has to unexpectedly go do it in a live regular season game.
