The Washington Commanders are here. The NFL’s Washington franchise debuted its new name, markings and uniforms on Saturday in their preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers. Along with the changes, the team re-introduced its marching band to fans.

The marching band also debuted the team’s new fight song prior to kickoff.

The marching band and fight song were halted after the team dropped its longstanding moniker and used the temporary name of the Washington Football Team during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

The Commanders revised its previous fight song changing the title to “Hail to the Commanders” with altered lyrics. Fans voted between two options for the hook of the song.

“Fight for our Commanders!” prevailed in a close battle over “Leaders on a mission!”

Coincidentally, the band didn’t perform the new fight song after the Commanders first touchdown — a Brian Robinson one-yard rush.

Hey, it’s preseason for everyone. The new marching band has a few things to work on right? They’ll be ready for the regular season. The Commanders don’t have another home preseason game. But, the team will be in front of its fans at FedEx Field for Week 1 of the regular season on Sept. 11 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
