Watch: Commanders penalized for 12 men on the field, give up 40-yard TD to Bears anyway

On Thursday night, NFL fans were treated to another top-tier matchup as the Chicago Bears hosted the Washington Commanders, kicking off the action for Week 6 of the regular season.

Delighting those who fancy a defensive battle, the Bears and Commanders engaged in a contest to determine who would take the longest to score a touchdown.

Nearly halfway through the third quarter, neither the Commanders nor the Bears had found the end zone. However, with 7:16 left in the third quarter, the Bears finally broke through when Justin Fields connected with Dante Pettis on a long, 40-yard touchdown to give the Bears a 7-3 lead.

Adding insult to injury, the Commanders committed a penalty for 12 men on the field, which was, of course, declined by the Bears. However, after preventing a touchdown through more than a half of football, Washington failed to prevent the score, even with one extra man on the field.

The play perfectly describes how the Commanders' season has played out thus far.

Entering Thursday's contest with a 1-4 mark, head coach Ron Rivera garnered some negative attention after seemingly throwing quarterback Carson Wentz under the bus during a press conference earlier this week. According to Wentz, the two sides have put the incident behind them, with Rivera even addressing the team to smooth things over.
