It can be challenging for NFL players to find peers to workout with during this time of social distancing with team facilities closed. While many players are trying to just keep in shape and condition for training camp, Miami Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki is taking his workout game to the next level.
Gesicki knew he needed to find a way to put his hands to the test and get his body in great condition for training camp and the grind of the NFL season. So, the 24-year-old put his arm strength, speed, and hands-on display with this absurd throw over a two-story house and an equally impressive catch on the run.
A second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Gesicki is coming off an impressive season. He hauled in 51 receptions with 570 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 2019, despite playing on one of the NFL’s worst offenses. He also demonstrated a nice ability to make big plays, averaging 11.2 yards per catch and making 25 grabs for first downs.
The genius of this drill isn’t just creativity. NFL teams want their best offensive weapons to demonstrate the ability to track the football over their shoulder and make catches on the move. Gesicki clearly brings that talent to the table, as he showcased in this stellar moment as he maintained his stride after the catch.
Tua Tagovailoa was already happy to be drafted by the Miami Dolphins with the No. 5 overall pick. After watching this video of Gesicki, we’d imagine Tagovailoa’s smile got even wider. Don’t be surprised if this 6-foot-6 athletic weapon becomes a featured piece of Miami’s offense this season.
