Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox scored the final touchdown of the regular season. He picked up right where he left off in regulation.

With 7:06 remaining in the first quarter and Buffalo deep in the red zone, quarterback Josh Allen connected with his veteran tight end in the left side of the end zone for the game’s opening score. The nine-yard catch gave the Bills a quick 7-0 lead.

Getting out ahead early is important against a Pittsburgh Steelers team that is looking to grind out wins, rather than race their way to do them. The quicker Pittsburgh becomes one-dimensional, the quicker Buffalo can run away with a Wild Card win.

Allen completed all five of his passes on that drive, finishing the scripted plays with 56 yards and that score. Knox’s catch was his only one thus far. However, he has a history of making things happen in the playoffs.

Monday’s first touchdown was the sixth playoff touchdown of Knox’s career. The tight end, now a backup of sorts to rookie Dalton Kincaid, is appearing in his fifth postseason. His career high for touchdowns in a playoff game is two, and his nine-yard catch was a good start toward matching his best (playoff) mark of 89 yards.

Expect the long-time connection between Allen and Knox to remain fruitful, especially in on late downs and in the red zone. It’s clear the two have a rapport, and when it comes to crunch time, Allen may very well turn to the targets he trusts most.
