Watch: Patriots' Mac Jones throws second interception, leads to Giants TD
More New England Patriots fans will probably call for quarterback Mac Jones' benching after an awful start against the New York Giants.
With 4:39 in the second quarter, Jones threw his second interception to Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke, who returned it for 55 yards. New York capitalized on the ensuing drive when quarterback Tommy DeVito threw a 12-yard TD to WR Isaiah Hodgins, giving the Giants a 7-0 lead.
Jones — the 15th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft — showed promise as a rookie, making a Pro Bowl. However, he's regressed, posting an 8-16 starting record over the past two seasons. Entering Week 12, he had completed 65.4 percent of his passes for the same amount of TDs and interceptions (10) and a below-average 40.4 QBR.
Before the Patriots' matchup with the Giants, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported backup QB Bailey Zappe was likely to play. At this point, it wouldn't be surprising if they go with him. Jones doesn't appear to be the answer.
