Watch: Terrell Owens loves him some Eagles fans
Author Tom Krause once wrote, “Never ask questions you don’t want to know the answers to.” Apparently, Bonta Hill and Joe Shasky, hosts of San Francisco’s The Morning Roast on 95.7 FM didn’t get the memo before interviewing Terrell Owens.
The Hall of Fame receiver spent eight years in San Francisco and three in Dallas, with 21 games for Philadelphia in between. Eagles fans aren’t really the warm and fuzzy types, so for Owens to single out their positivity is quite surprising.
After all, Owens' time in Philadelphia was tumultuous at best. In 2004, he led the team with 1,200 yards and his 14 touchdowns were third most in the NFL. His effort helped the Eagles reach Super Bowl XXXIX, their first since 1980.
Seven weeks before the game, Owens broke his leg and suffered a torn ankle ligament. Team doctors wouldn’t clear him for the Super Bowl, but he played anyway catching nine passes for a game-high 122 yards.
Philly fans will never forget the effort, but it sounds like they’ve forgotten the drama surrounding the following season. Hoping to renegotiate his contract, Owens hired agent Drew Rosenhaus and started making waves on a near-weekly basis.
First, he wore a Michael Irvin jersey on the team plane. Then he got into a fistfight with former defensive tackle Hugh Douglas in the locker room. After that, he went on ESPN and made what the team considered disparaging remarks about quarterback Donovan McNabb.
Eventually, the team grew frustrated and sent him home from practice, where a shirtless Owens held an impromptu news conference while doing sit-ups in his driveway. He was suspended for the rest of the year and released in the offseason.
So kudos to T.O. for getting back into Philadelphia’s good graces. They say time heals all wounds, and it sounds like all is forgiven. Owens often said, “I love me some me.” Now it seems Eagles fans do too.
