When NFL fans look at the Los Angeles Rams, they see a team full of top tier players.

They took those players last season to a Super Bowl victory in a hard fought battle against the Cincinnati Bengals.

However, some fans feel the Rams can repeat as champions.

But even with all the talent they have, can they accomplish this feat?

Nearly Twenty Years Have Past Since The Last Repeat Super Bowl Champions

When you look back in NFL history, fans need to go back nearly 20 years to find the last repeat champions in the NFL.

The last team to do it was the New England Patriots, when they won the Super Bowl in 2003 and 2004.

So being a repeat champion in the NFL doesn’t come easy.

Even Tom Brady and Bill Belichick only did this one time, despite all the Super Bowls they were in.

However, there’s more talent on this Rams roster than the Patriots as on theirs.

But will that make a difference in repeating as Super Bowl champs?

While having Aaron Donald, Bobby Wagner, and Jalen Ramsey on defense helps, it doesn’t guarantee a Super Bowl.

Having both Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp on offense doesn’t guarantee a repeat either.

There’s one thing they need that most repeat champs had during their runs as consecutive Super Bowl winners.

Leadership Is The Key Ingredient That Most Repeat Champions Have

Only seven teams have been repeat champions in the NFL since the Super Bowl era.

The feat has only been accomplished eight times, with the Pittsburgh Steelers being the only team to do it twice.

However, when you look at those seven teams, you find teams with leaders at head coach and quarterback with those teams.

With the team around Brady in 2003 and 2004, he and Belichick used their leadership skills to make the Patriots repeat champs.

While we can feel the Rams can repeat as champs with the team they have, it’s about their leadership.

If Stafford and head coach Sean McVay can’t prove themselves as leaders, then the Rams won’t make it to a Super Bowl this season.

However, key players on the Rams’ defense have proven themselves to be leaders.

Could The Rams Repeat On The Backs Of Their Defensive Leaders?

Donald and Wagner are proven Super Bowl leaders on defense.

While Wagner got most of his fame with the Legion of Boom in Seattle, Donald has shown his talents with the Rams his entire career.

Both these players were key in their Super Bowl games for the teams they played with.

Now, the two join forces to form a super team on the Rams’ defense for 2022.

They could be the key players of this Rams season with repeating as champs.

They both are excellent on-field talents that show leadership, which can help get the Rams back into the Super Bowl.

However, teams like the Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be potential obstacles in their way this season.

But even with them in the way, the Rams defense isn’t afraid as they begin their march to a highly likely repeat championship season.
