What ex-Broncos star DE Bradley Chubb does for Dolphins

Defensive end Bradley Chubb, acquired by the Dolphins from the Broncos on Tuesday, will instantly improve a Miami pass rush that has struggled to generate pressure. Miami has only 15 sacks in eight games.

Chubb already has 5.5 sacks. Overall, the fifth overall pick in 2018 has 26 career sacks. Chubb will likely play opposite second-year edge defender Jaelan Phillips, who has 23 hurries and three sacks.

Aside from Phillips, the Dolphins have underwhelmed along the edge. Before suffering a torn ACL against the Steelers, safety Brandon Jones was tied with Phillips for the team lead in sacks with two. (Phillips added 1.5 sacks against the Steelers.)

Defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah was re-signed to a four-year, $65.4M deal over the offseason after racking up nine sacks in 2021. With just one sack, he hasn't yet lived up to the deal.

Trey Flowers also has seven hurries, and Andrew Van Ginkel has played only 33 pass rush snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

Free agency acquisition Melvin Ingram III has been reliable with 13 hurries, and can continue to contribute in a rotational role.

If the Dolphins want to make a run to the Super Bowl, they must go through an AFC gauntlet that includes hard-to-tackle quarterbacks Josh Allen (Bills), Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs) and Lamar Jackson (Ravens).

Against Allen and Jackson this season, Miami struggled to contain both.

Jackson ran for 119 yards and a touchdown against the Dolphins, and Allen ran for 47 yards, 43 on scrambles, per PFF.

Adding Chubb to the mix may be the solution the Dolphins need
