What if DeSean Jackson finally teamed up with Aaron Rodgers?

As the story goes, DeSean Jackson attended the University of California-Berkeley from 2005 to 2007. What many people forget about is that he and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers were supposed to be teammates in 2005. But, Rodgers left after the 2004 season for the NFL Draft. They might have one more opportunity to play with one another.

The 35-year old Jackson is currently a free agent and looking for a new team as his career enters the final stretch. The Packers could be looking for more receiver help after the losses of All-Pro receiver Davante Adams and speedster Marquez Valdes-Scantling. In 2020, Valdes-Scantling had the best yards-per-reception mark since... Jackson in 2010. With $17M in cap space, the Packers should consider brining on a veteran deep threat to take the top off the defense.

Jackson is one of the great deep threat receivers in NFL history. The 14-year veteran has a career yards-per-reception mark of 17.6. The Los Angeles native has the NFL record for most touchdown receptions of 60+ yards (26) and is also tied for the most receiving touchdowns of 80+ yards in history (five). The three-time Pro Bowler has five 1,000-yard seasons in his career and nine seasons of 700-yard seasons. He has over 630 receptions, over 11,000 receiving yards and nearly 60 receiving touchdowns in his career. It is unlikely that Jackson would become a punt return threat at the age of 35, but he does have four career punt return touchdowns in his career. These numbers have come with five different teams. The Packers might just be his sixth. The Philadelphia Eagles legend listed Green Bay as one of the four teams he would like to play for in 2022 earlier in the offseason.

Again, the Green Bay Packers have roughly $17M in cap space. If they are looking to replace Valdes-Scantling with another deep threat, Jackson would be a fantastic replacement. Plus, Jackson and Rodgers are old friends due to their connection with UC-Berekely. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur would be running an even scarier offense with Jackson and rookie speedster Christian Watson. It would be a sneaky good move if GM Brian Gutekunst brought Jackson in on a one-year deal.
