What can the Las Vegas Raiders expect out of safety Tre'von Moehrig in the coming season? Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

What's the 2022 outlook for Raiders S Tre'von Moehrig?

The Las Vegas Raiders selected Tre'von Moehrig with the 43rd pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Coming off an underrated rookie season, the young stud offers security for a Raiders defense that has struggled in recent years.

The team's consistent reliance on the offensive side of the ball is no mystery. With the Raiders being named ESPN's worst defense of the decade, it's evident that the fluctuation of coordinators and athletes ordered to slow down opponents hasn't worked. However, Las Vegas has added some young pieces that the franchise can build around defensively — edge rusher Maxx Crosby and defensive back Nate Hobbs come to mind. Adding to that list is sophomore safety Tre'von Moehrig.

Moehrig, recently honored as a flex to NFl.com's Nick Shook's All-Under-25 Team, demonstrated promise throughout the roller-coaster 2021 Raiders season. Serving as the last line of defense, the TCU product posted 36 solo tackles, six passes defensed and an interception. Most impressively, the rookie started every game. The 6-foot-2, 202-pounder only allowed one touchdown on 18 targets, making him a top-10 safety according to PFF.  Expected to often line up alongside Johnathon Abram, Nate Hobbs, Amik Robertson and Trayvon Mullen Jr., Moehrig acts as the glue holding a youthful squad of defensive backs together.

Las Vegas has Super Bowl expectations for the upcoming 2022 NFL season. With top-end talents like  Russel Wilson, Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert being division rivals, the Raiders' path to the playoffs will be no easy feat. Fortunately, Moehrig is ready for the challenge. Making moves to acquire seasoned defenders like cornerback Rock Ya-Sin and edge rusher Chandler Jones to add to Pro-Bowl MVP Maxx Crosby make matters easier as well.

With a duel versus Jacksonville in the forefront, internal battles for starting jobs and roster spots are officially underway. To the second-year safety, it's just another day at the office.

Raiders fans should expect to see Moehrig wearing the silver and black for years to come.
