Why Bengals' Joe Burrow received advice from Jets' Aaron Rodgers

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow revealed he received advice from New York Jets star Aaron Rodgers regarding the calf injury Burrow first suffered during training camp that he's dealing with early into the season.

"He's dealt with calf issues his whole career and wanted to use him as a resource and get his thoughts, what he might have done," Burrow said about Rodgers, per Ben Baby of ESPN. "He's been through it, done that. And he was great about it."

According to Christian Arnold of the New York Post, Rodgers explained during a Tuesday appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" that he reached out to Burrow after watching the 26-year-old play through discomfort during Monday's 19-16 win over the Los Angeles Rams that improved the Bengals to 1-2 on the season. Burrow completed 26-of-49 passes for 259 yards with no touchdowns and one interception against Los Angeles.

"For him to tough it out, I don't think that people realize how much pain and limited mobility he was in," Rodgers said about Burrow while speaking with McAfee. "But for him to gut it out last night and to make enough plays to win, like I texted him, that's what great competitors do. They show up and play through the pain and don't make it a big deal."

Rodgers experienced multiple calf-related setbacks after he was traded to the Jets by the Green Bay Packers this past spring. The future Hall of Famer suffered a season-ending torn Achilles during New York's Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills.

"[I'm] going to continue to use that as a resource," Burrow said without sharing exactly what he learned from Rodgers. "He's a great guy. Whenever you have a guy like that that's willing to help, you're going to use it."

According to ESPN stats, Burrow ended Week 3 ranked 28th out of 34 qualified players with a 38.1 overall adjusted QBR for the season. He tossed two touchdown passes and two interceptions across the campaign's first three games.

The Bengals play at the 1-2 Tennessee Titans this coming Sunday afternoon.
