Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Why Denver's Courtland Sutton could have huge season

No NFL player will have a bigger impact on his team than Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson, according to FOX Sports analyst Warren Sharp. The biggest beneficiary of Wilson's play could be wide receiver Courtland Sutton.

"Now (Sutton) gets a quarterback light years ahead of anything he has had previously,” Sharp wrote.

Sutton has played with five different quarterbacks since he was drafted by Denver in 2018. He has persevered, making a Pro Bowl and registering the most receiving yards (1,816) and receiving touchdowns (10) in Broncos history through his first two seasons.

Wilson noticed Sutton throughout camp.

“Courtland’s been exceptional,” Wilson told USA Today. “He’s got an amazing skill set in terms of his ability to catch the football down the field, but he is extremely, extremely bright. I’m not sure if you’ve ever seen him throw a football, but he could play quarterback if he wanted to. He’s that smart.”

Sutton's presence is good for Wilson because he’ll need strong targets to fulfill high expectations. ESPN ranked Wilson at No.13 in its top 100 NFL players list, above Tom Brady (20), Joe Burrow (26) and Matthew Stafford (30). All three have been to a Super Bowl in the past two years.
