Why Dolphins' Tyreek Hill deserves to win MVP

Since a quarterback hasn't separated himself from the pack this season, should Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill win MVP?

"It's impossible to watch the Dolphins operate their breathtaking offense without realizing Hill is the unicorn that makes it all possible," wrote ESPN's Dan Graziano. "If Hill gets to the end of the season with the record numbers, and if the QB pack remains as it is so far, I really don't see anything wrong with giving Hill the MVP award."

Hill — who has 1,481 receiving yards in 12 games — is on pace to break the record Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson set in 2012 (1,964 yards in 16 games). The 29-year-old wideout also leads the NFL in receiving TDs (12). His excellent play is one reason the Dolphins (9-3) rank first in the league in passing yards (285.1) and second in points scored (32 PPG).

However, a WR has never won MVP, and 15 of the last 16 winners have been QBs. As of Monday, oddschecker places Hill in its top 10 MVP odds, but six QBs are ahead of him.

While it's the most important position, MVP shouldn't be a de facto "best QB award," especially when a player like Hill is having a historic season and is the best player on a team that's a Super Bowl contender.

Hill's value cannot be overstated. Since Kansas City dealt the seven-time Pro Bowler to the Dolphins in 2022, they're tied for the league's seventh-most wins (18). He's also helped Tua Tagovailoa become a franchise QB. Over the past two seasons, the former first-round pick has posted the league's second-best passer rating (105.7).

It's apparent Hill is a transcendent talent who deserves to make history and win the coveted award.
