Why Giants' Kenny Golladay needs 76 receptions vs. Eagles on Sunday

Those creating weekly fantasy football lineups for Week 18 of the 2022 NFL season may want to start New York Giants wide receiver Kenny Golladay.

On Thursday, the Barstool Sports Twitter account mentioned that Golladay needs to tally at least 76 catches during this Sunday's regular-season finale at the 13-3 Philadelphia Eagles to trigger a $750,000 bonus attached to his contract.

Golladay signed a four-year deal reportedly worth up to $72 million with the Giants in March 2021. Later that same month, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio noted that Golladay can earn a $750,000 bonus during each season of the contract if he reaches 80 receptions, 10 touchdowns, or/and 1,200 receiving yards.

Heading into Sunday's action, Golladay has a paltry four catches for 51 yards and zero scores on the campaign. He recorded 37 receptions for 521 yards and no touchdowns during his debut season with the Giants.

Some fans have understandably questioned Golladay's efforts throughout his Giants tenure which likely will end in March, but certain statistics shared in November indicated the 29-year-old is simply no longer in his physical prime. Fox Sports' Ralph Vacchiano later pointed out that Golladay's contract will carry $14.7 million in dead-cap money "when" the Giants cut him this offseason.

Sunday's game in Philadelphia means nothing for the playoff-bound Giants (9-6-1) as it pertains to the standings because they are locked in as the conference's No. 6 playoff seed. Assuming New York sits offensive starters for the bulk of that contest, Golladay could see a handful of passes from backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

Perhaps Taylor could earn a nice payday by targeting Golladay on just about every offensive play the Giants run. It'd be the most interesting thing Golladay has done wearing a New York jersey that doesn't involve upsetting members of the team's devoted fan base.
