As exciting as the NFL Combine is for prospective prospects, some head coaches have begun to ignore the event entirely.
We can add New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh to that list now, too.
Jets general manager Joe Douglas is the only scheduled representative for the organization to have any media availability during the week of the scouting combine. Saleh is not on the schedule.
This is not the first time New York's head coach has refused to attend the main scouting event in a controlled environment at Lucas Oil Stadium. Saleh did not attend last year and has been a part of a growing trend of coaches who have ignored the event entirely.
Assistant coaches and Douglas will be the parties representing New York instead.
In most coaches minds now, there is so much prep work that needs to be done for the upcoming free agent and draft class that being able to split duties is usually the best way to operate. To some, scouting a prospect can come from the top 30 visits scheduled over the next two months, as well as players' Pro Days at their universities.
While there will be some fans upset over the fact their head coach is not attending a major scouting event, this has been the norm for New York now for quite some time.
And at the very least they can hear the kind of strategy Douglas is looking to work with over the next month.
