Why Minkah Fitzpatrick is to thank for Steelers' game-winning INT

The Steelers were able to squeak out another close win in Week 10 that came down to the final play of the game, but it's All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, who was inactive, who is to thank.

According to reports, Pittsburgh was planning on playing man coverage against the Packers who had the ball at the 16-yard line with just three seconds left in the game. But Fitzpatrick did not like the play call.

The three-time Pro Bowler was so adamant on the sideline that the Steelers decided to take a timeout and switch to having a shell of players guarding the end zone. It resulted in a game-winning interception by safety Damontae Kazee.

"Yeah, I had an idea," Fitzpatrick said after the game. "So me and [defensive backs coach] Grady [Brown] talked [Teryl Austin] into changing it."

It is unknown what would have played out if Pittsburgh did not listen to Fitzpatrick, but it is a good thing it did as the team moved to 6-3 on the season.

Fitzpatrick continues to prove his worth as his high football IQ proved to be a difference maker once again, even if he was not playing. However, the Steelers are certainly missing him on the field as they are allowing the sixth most passing yards per game (248.4) in the league.

The veteran safety has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury and Pittsburgh is surely hoping he will return for its Week 11 divisional tilt against the Browns.

Either way, Fitzpatrick will continue to make his presence known in an important AFC North matchup that has big playoff implications.
