Why Steelers won't go WR in first round of 2023 NFL Draft

The Steelers have been linked to WR Jordan Addison as some want them to reunite him with QB Kenny Pickett in Pittsburgh. However, the reunion isn't likely to happen.

Addison is a likely first-rounder and the Steelers have had success at drafting receivers outside of the first round for some time. General manager Omar Khan didn't seem into the idea at the NFL Combine either.

"We wouldn't have traded Chase [Claypool] if we didn't feel good about that room," Khan told reporters. "We really felt good about the guys that were in that room."

Pittsburgh traded Claypool for pick No. 32 midseason and a big reason was because of their 2022 fourth-round pick in WR Calvin Austin III. Austin III missed the entire 2022 season after being placed on injured reserve but certainly brings upside with his speed after running a 4.32-second 40-yard dash a year ago.

"He's progressing nicely. You know, the OTAs and the spring ball will be big for him just to see where he's at," Khan added. "Excited about him. …We're expecting great things from Calvin."

Khan was asked for his opinion on the USC product, however, his response was quite simple.

"Jordan Addison, he's a really good football player," he said.

Pickett and Addison connected 100 times for 1,593 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2021, but the reunion is starting to seem like a pipe dream as the Steelers are looking elsewhere.
