Will 'MNF' impact the odds for the next NFL coach to be fired?

Ever since the Las Vegas Raiders gave Josh McDaniels the boot on Halloween, experts and fans alike have been wondering who will be the next head coach relieved of his duties.

Things get even more interesting with this week's "Monday Night Football" matchup as the New York Jets host a struggling Los Angeles Chargers team. The Bolts -- who are three-point favorites to win per BetMGM -- have underwhelmed this season and currently sit at 3-4 after dropping two of their last three games.

Could a loss at MetLife on Monday increase the odds of Chargers head coach Brandon Staley hitting the bricks?

According to bookies.com, Staley's chances of being the next NFL coach fired are priced at +450 on the money line. There are coaches with shorter odds than this, and it is likely that last week's 30-13 win against the Chicago Bears helped keep Staley in a job. (For the record, Bears coach Matt Eberflus has the shortest odds of being the next head coach fired at +300.)

That being said, Staley needs a big performance from Justin Herbert and company if he wants to remain on the sidelines. As far as scoring goes, the Under has hit in the Chargers' last five straight games and their third down conversion rate is 12th in the league at 41.05%.

Long story short, the Chargers have to get into the end zone early and often to keep the odds of Staley getting fired from getting shorter.

LA is 2-4-1 against the spread this season according to Covers, while New York is 4-2-1. The Jets are also riding a three-game winning streak that includes a 20-14 upset of the Philadelphia Eagles.
