The offseason was filled with high hopes for Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Bryan Edwards. Even though we have seen glimpses, he just hasn’t produced. There have been outside factors during the season that have not helped Edwards. However, we cannot place all of the blame on them.
Edwards has struggled with his separation issues and appears to lose favor through games at times. With a big game today against the Washington Football Team, Edwards needs to step up, not just for the team but also for himself.
A steep drop
Through the first six games of this season, per ESPN, Edwards had 27 targets and 15 receptions, and many were clutch or big catches. Just ask Baltimore, Miami, and Denver. In the last five games, Edwards has 13 targets, seven receptions, and two games without a catch. With the offense having some issues, Edwards has taken a backseat. Today, he needs to earn some reps and reclaim the spotlight.Forgetful November
In November, Edwards made guest appearances in games. In the four games that the Raiders played, Edwards accumulated four receptions for 100 yards and a rush for no gain. In the Thanksgiving game versus the Cowboys, Edwards saw his teammates shine, with Hunter Renfrow and DeSean Jackson each contributing with 100-yard-plus games. Meanwhile, Zay Jones made key catches and drew the pass interference call that eventually won the game. Edwards has been big when the Raiders have needed him. In Week 1, he and Derek Carr drove downfield to set up the game-tying field goal. In Week 3 against the Dolphins, Edwards caught a crucial 34-yard pass to help get the Raiders the victory, and in Week 6 against the Broncos, his one-handed 51-yard reception helped put the game on ice. Those catches were all in big moments.
December will be a big month as each game will be critical if Vegas hopes to make the postseason. So, what better time than against Washington for Edwards to be clutch again? Everyone will be watching closely with many eyes on Edwards. Hopefully, Carr’s eyes will be the pair that looks his way.
