Will Smith doesn't think "Concussion" film will upset the NFL

This Christmas, Sony Pictures will be releasing the film "Concussion," starring Hollywood mega-star Will Smith. Smith will be playing Dr. Bennet Amalu, the forensic neuropathologist who made the first discovery of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a football-related brain trauma injury.

The film is expected to cast the NFL in a negative light, however Smith himself does not believe the movie will upset NFL brass.

“I don’t think it’s going to generate too much controversy,” Smith said referring to the NFL on Sunday while attending the Hollywood Film Awards. “There will be a little difficulty in swallowing it, as it was for me. I’m a football dad, you know.”

Smith's eldest son, Trey, played football in high school, but chose not pursue the sport in college.

Having received a tremendous amount of negative publicity over the past few years due to concerns about concussions and domestic violence, the NFL is extremely sensitive about its image, and how they are portrayed. "Concussion" is widely expected to depict the NFL in an antagonistic manner, attempting to dismiss Dr. Amalu's findings.

As of September, 87 deceased NFL players have tested positive for CTE, a disease which leads to conditions such as memory loss, depression and dementia.
