The Detroit Lions have a big offseason this year. We're talking about the type of offseason that could bring them from a team that almost made the Super Bowl to a team that should win it next year. While everyone is really looking forward to seeing which players they come out of the offseason with, they're also looking forward to seeing what the jerseys those guys will be wearing in 2024 will look like.

The expectation at this point is that the Lions will be updating their uniforms this offseason. Today we need to talk about what we know and when such a thing could happen. Let's get into it.

What we know

The Lions became eligible to redesign their uniforms after the 2022 season. We know that in April of 2021, the Lions first talked about how they were considering a change, but then when 2022 rolled around, Lions president Rod Wood said that the Lions would not update the uniforms prior to the 2022 season and that the team was in the process of planning for a possible launch after the 2023 season.

“We’re actually starting a process to look at a possible change for next year,” Wood said. “It’s really like a year-plus lead time. So we just convened a committee. I know we get a lot of things tweeted at us and suggestions about what fans want, so we catalogue all those and we’ll take them under advisement.”

Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown talked last January on his podcast about how he felt that the Lions needed new jerseys and how that was coming soon.

“We need some new jerseys, though. That’s coming soon. Stay tuned.”

That's the last thing we heard. We're still waiting to hear an update on whether or not this is going to actually happen this offseason.

When could we know things and when could a reveal happen?

We might get some confirmation that this is actually happening very soon when the league has their annual league meeting in March. That's where reporters spoke with Wood prior to the 2022 season and he informed them that they would wait till after 2023.

When could the uniforms be unveiled? That could happen in April before the drafts. The last time the Lions unveiled new uniforms, it was at Ford Field on April 13th, 2017. April before the draft is when multiple teams have unveiled their new looks in recent years.

We'll see soon enough if this is happening and when it will happen. But this is some information that should get you by until then.
