Woody Johnson has 'unwavering, steadfast confidence' in coach Robert Saleh, GM Joe Douglas

The New York Jets were thrashed by the New England Patriots 54-13 this past Sunday to fall to 1-5, and injury was added to that insult when quarterback Zach Wilson went down with a sprained right PCL that could sideline him for two to four weeks.

Jets general manager Joe Douglas and first-year head coach Robert Saleh have understandably been targets of criticism among some in the New York media and also among angry Gang Green fans this week, but owner and chairman Woody Johnson backed the pair while speaking at the NFL's fall meeting on Tuesday.

"I have unwavering, steadfast confidence in Joe [Douglas], Robert [Saleh] and the coaching staff," Johnson explained, per DJ Bien-Aime II of the New York Daily News. "I’ve been around for going on 22 years, with my little absence that I had recently, and this is a good group. So we will get it right."

The Jets responded to losing Wilson for at least a couple of games by acquiring Joe Flacco from the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday.

"Just talking to the leadership with Joe and Robert, talking to them and seeing how their plans are put together, how they’re deep thinkers," Johnson continued. "I think they want to do things like establish a culture and they’re getting the right players in the right positions."

How Wilson develops and grows will likely determine at least Saleh's long-term fate, but Johnson's words suggest that the key individuals running the team at this time have nothing to worry about the temperatures of their figurative seats as November approaches.
