Would Trey Flowers switch to another NFC North team, sign with the Packers?

It is a rare occurrence when a one player switches teams in the same division. But great players will do whatever it takes to win. Trey Flowers is a two-time Super Bowl winner who is looking to get back to his winning ways. Those two Super Bowl victories came while the former Arkansas alum was in New England. Things haven't gone the same way in Detroit each of the last three years. A team like the Green Bay Packers, who are in need of a No. 3 edge-rusher, could be an option for the free agent.

After the loss of All-Pro edge-rusher Za'Darius Smith to the rival Vikings, Green Bay needs more depth on the edge. Starters Preston Smith and Rashan Gary both recorded at least nine sacks each in 2021 with Za'Darius Smith out for almost the entire year with a back injury. The team did draft edge-rusher Kingsley Enagbare in the fifth round of April's NFL Draft, but there is still plenty of inexperience with backups Jonathan Garvin and Tipa Galeai. Bringing in a veteran in Flowers would help solidify that room and complete an elite defense. From 2016 to 2019, Flowers either recorded seven-plus sacks or 20-plus QB hits in each season. Again, he was a key contributor to two of Bill Belichick's championship defenses in New England. He is a member of the New England Patriots 2010s All-Decade Team. However, he will turn 29 this year and has played in just 14 of a possible 33 games over the last two seasons. But a team like Green Bay wouldn't need him to play every down. He would be a very talented, tough rotational piece for Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry.

Preston Smith (career-high in sacks is 12), Gary (Defensive Player of the Year candidate) and Flowers (two-time Super Bowl champion) would be a dangerous trio for any offensive line to handle. It would be interesting to see if Flowers would consider moving to a divisional rival. The Packers have Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. Their defense continues to become even more talented. Adding Flowers would be a strong move for GM Brian Gutekunst. With roughly $17M in cap space, a one- or two-year deal makes plenty of sense.
