WR Josh Gordon to learn NFL reinstatement fate before season

Troubled wide receiver Josh Gordon will likely have to wait at least another month before learning his NFL fate.

The 29-year-old submitted reinstatement paperwork to league offices last week in the wake of his latest suspension for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing drugs and substance abuse.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler discussed the matter on Thursday:

"I'm told commissioner Roger Goodell will hear that reinstatement process, and Gordon expects to hear in the next 30 days, and then he could meet with Goodell either face to face or virtually," Fowler explained.

Fowler added that Gordon's camp claims the one-time All-Pro is currently clean but hasn't been drug tested as normal over the past several months because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Gordon played for the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks in 2019 before the NFL handed him an indefinite ban in December. Adam Kenner, Gordon's lawyer, told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero that his client suffered a relapse last year following the death of his brother.

To date, Gordon has violated NFL drug policies on five occasions. His lone All-Pro and Pro Bowl campaign was back in 2013 when he led the league in receiving yards (1,646) and receiving yards per game (117.6) while with the Cleveland Browns.

The Seahawks need a receiver and could look to either Gordon or Antonio Brown, although it seems unlikely the club would sign both this summer.

Gordon has strongly hinted on social media he'd like to return to the Seahawks.
