WR Marquise Goodwin signs one-year contract with Bears

Following his opting out of the 2020 NFL season due to concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, veteran wide receiver Marquise Goodwin reverted from the Philadelphia Eagles back to the San Francisco 49ers per the conditions of a prior trade.

San Francisco never had any plans for Goodwin this year and, thus, released him, and he officially found a new home with the Chicago Bears on Friday via a one-year contract.

Like many others around the league at a time when the salary cap has dropped by nearly $16 million from the previous year, Goodwin will be playing for what he hopes is a lucrative future deal when he takes the field starting in September. The 30-year-old has recorded 140 catches for 2,323 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns across 40 starts and 75 regular-season games but saw his production decline over each of his past two campaigns before he sat 2020 out for understandable reasons.

Goodwin will be catching passes from new Chicago quarterback Andy Dalton but possibly could've been playing alongside unsettled Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson had things gone differently earlier this offseason.
